Top 5 Tips for Exercise While Working At Home

Feb 7, 2021

There is possibly no better time than now to start regular exercise. Due to lockdown, you might find that you have more time than normal as you are not able to socialise as you normally would. You can use this time to start exercising and with the country currently in lockdown, the benefits extend further than just physical changes. You will notice that mentally you feel better as exercise is known to reduce anxiety, depression, and negative mood and improve self-esteem. Exercise is the best medicine on the planet, let’s have a bit of that ourselves!

With that being said, here are our top five tips for exercise while working at home during lockdown:

  1. Mini exercise circuits through the day
  2. Get outside on your work breaks
  3. Take it online
  4. 10,000 steps per day
  5. Keep up with the kids

1. Mini exercise circuits throughout the day.

It can be hard to find time in a working day to get exercise in so start small, set the bar low initially and get 2-3 minutes in several times per day. Get up from the desk and perform this little mini circuit.

  • Try 10 wall press-ups
  • Grab a bottle of wine in each hand and raise them out to the side 10 times
  • 10 squats up and down from the chair
  • Up and down the stairs twice
  • Get back to work 😊

Try it out, I’ve just had a go, took around 90 SECONDS, my legs and back feel energised and I’m back at the desk with more focus.

2. Get outside on your work breaks

No more sitting at the desk during “tea breaks”.  I know our N. Irish weather doesn’t entice us out some days but lets be honest, it only takes 2-3 minutes to get the layers on so you can get out and feel comfortable.

3. Take it Online

If you struggle with finding exercises that you enjoy or motivating yourself to start, you should consider looking online. There are so many live classes to choose from, with some even being hosted by celebrities like Joe Wicks, who everyday hosts a HIIT workout called PE with Joe on YouTube. You can even check out Causeway Pilates as Jo, our Lead Pilates Instructor runs daily Live Classes on Zoom so you can still get your Pilates fix.

4. 10,000 Steps a day

Waking is MASSIVELY underrated by many people so now’s the time to start stepping up to our 10,000 steps a day. Don’t amble, get the legs moving and you’ll be surprised how much this helps relieve stress, sleep and

5. Keep up with the kids!

Have a bit of fun and learn from our kids. They just move for fun so join them and get skipping or play hop scotch on the patio or have a high paced game of tag!
